Hi Jaya, its me Kerri, the West Indian visual artist from Trinidad. And Hi everyone, happy to join you, having recently concluded JPM’s fascinating IA year study. Absolutely delighted to dive into these new lecture series at map academy. Map-India’s astounding textile collections have resonated with me for some years, since its’ digital inception in 2020 and incredibly grateful for all these scholastic forums, which reach wide international audiences and enthusiasts alike. I wanted to formally connect here and learn, as it deeply resonates with my Longtime, enduring research interests of larger themes of social mapping in South Asia & Beyond. Tracing familial geneaolgies of my great ancestors who arrived in Trinidad from Madras (Chennai) in 1870’s. Began this initial exploration on the Indian Subcontinent in 2006, on my own quest, as an artist fellowship recipient. Now 20 yrs later, hoping to finally return to India to revisit these most revered hand woven, handpainted, sacred and symbolic traditions in a more intimate light. So feel free to reach out and chat on any textile discoveries, histories related to migration and narrative paintings.Thanks. Namaste🙏🏿
