Now that we have looked at the emergence of Baroda as an important centre for art, let’s turn our attention to Bhupen Khakhar (1934–2003), one of the major figures to have shaped Indian art in the 1970s. Khakhar, who was a part of the narrative figuration movement, is also recognised as India’s first ‘Pop Artist’.
